Tummy Tuck For a flat tummy

Tummy tuck is quite a familiar word these days. In medical parlance it is also referred to as Abdominoplasty or Panniculectomy.  These days most young adults are conscious about the way they look and this involves either rigorous exercise or diet controls. But in certain cases, no matter how many hours of exercise you put in or eat diet food, you tend to grow the small paunch or bulge around your tummy.  Tummy tuck is an effective solution to get rid of that bulge and helps you to get a washboard tummy. It involves removing the excessive fat from the lower and middle portion of the abdomen. This process also helps to repair the stretched muscles thereby the condition of the abdominal wall tone.  The stretch marks that appear on the lower abdomen as a result of the stretching of the skin due to fat deposition are also removed.

Tummy tuck takes about 3 to 4 hours. One can either go for complete or partial abdominoplasty.  During the surgery a horizontal incision is made just across the lower abdomen area. The extent of the incision varies depending upon the amount of skin that is to be removed. If there is a huge deposition of fat around the tummy area, then tummy tuck needs to be backed by liposuction for effective results.

If you want to determine whether you need a tummy tuck, you need to observe the skin around your abdominal region very carefully.  If it is excessively loose and drooping, you can think about getting a tuck done.  This may happen, especially post pregnancy.  However, you must be careful about not opting for this procedure if you wish to conceive in the near future. In any case do consult your doctor before you go ahead.

It is important to follow the advice of your cosmetic surgeon before and after the tummy tuck. You may feel a lot of pain and uneasiness right after the operation. It is advisable to take complete rest and follow the advice of your doctor minutely.  In an abdominoplasty operation, tubes are implanted within your tummy to prevent the deposition of fluids. These are removed in a span of few days.  You can resume your normal day to day activities within a couple of weeks.  If you are under a good cosmetic surgeon, the entire procedure would be scar free. You will fail to recognize your own body as the loose skin folds will disappear and you will have firm, taut and smooth skin.

There are various types of abdominoplasty procedures. The various types of tummy tucks include-

  •  Mini tummy tucks
  • Circumferential tummy
  • Traditional tummy tucks
  • Extended tummy tucks
  • Endoscopic tummy tucks.

The kind of tummy tuck that would be suitable for a patient is determined by the nature of the problem and your medical condition. For example, circumferential tummy tucks is mostly opted for by patients who have to go for a gastric bypass surgery while endoscopic tummy tucks is for those who have weak abdominal muscles.
