Liposuction: Remove the flab from specific areas of your body.

Liposuction is quite a familiar term these days. It is alternatively known as lipoplasty and is used to remove excessive flab from different parts of the body. It is also referred by some as “suction-assisted fat removal”. It is mainly performed on areas like the thighs, the abdomen, the neck, buttocks and arms. There are many who have tried hard to lose excess fat through diet and exercise but all your efforts have yielded little or no results. It often happens that you tend to lose weight from other areas rather than the ones you desire. Lipoplasty helps to take the excess fat out of specific areas and is therefore a way of body contouring.

The credit for the discovery of liposuction goes to Dr. Giorgio Fisher who practiced as a gynecologist in Rome.  The techniques of liposuction, as it is carried out in the contemporary times, were first demonstrated Dr. Yves-Gerard Illouz, a French surgeon. He created what is now known as the “Illouz Method”. He invented this “suction assisted lipolysis” in which fluid was injected into the tissues with the help of high-vacuum suction and blunt cannulas.

If you want to opt for liposuction, then you should choose the right surgeon for this procedure, one who would be able to carry out the procedure smoothly without causing any damage to the other tissues. The surgeon should also keep an eye on the fluid balance of the patient and should know the exact amount of fat that is to be removed from the patient’s body.

There are different kinds of liposuction techniques depending upon the amount of fluid that is injected into the body parts of the patient. These include laser assisted liposuction, wet liposuction, dry liposuction, super wet liposuction and tumescent liposuction. These techniques are implemented with the help of different mechanisms. These include the external ultrasound assisted liposuction, ultrasound assisted liposuction, power assisted liposuction, suction assisted liposuction, water assisted liposuction and twin cannula assisted liposuction

It is important to have an idea about the implications of a liposuction procedure and your doctor is the best guide for you. Do not pin all your hopes on the surgery and mentally prepare yourself for the procedure. Do not think that you will get a completely revamped look post surgery. Side effects may develop and these may include scars, bruising, a bit of pain and swelling, numbness and restricted movement. The scars that may be left on your skin will depend upon the incision and these will automatically disappear within a short span.  The pain can be controlled by the intake of pain killers.

After the liposuction process is complete and you have recovered from it, you may find your skin hanging loose or in folds. This happens as a result of the removal of the fat. For a more firm skin you need to combine this technique with mastopexy or breast lift (in the case of women), tummy tuck or a facelift to get the desired results. If you do not wish to go for another surgery, an easier way out is by wearing shape-wear.
